Bookshare’s ebook library is one of the most versatile resources for people with reading barriers. In addition to having over 700,000 titles, members can read on almost any device, platform, and a host of compatible partner apps. Book Formats for Everyone!

Options are good, and Bookshare offers more choices in the form of books, reading tools, and now book formats. Bookshare wants to help its members read how and what they want to read. Over this past year, Bookshare added new download options to our existing book formats—DAISY Text and BRF (Braille Ready Format). Announcing the Winners of the Bookshare Express Summer Reading Event

Congratulations to all who participated in the Bookshare Express Summer Reading Event.  This year, we had over 245 Bookshare members participate all over the world, submitting over 775 entries.  Way to go! In this year’s reading event, participants took virtual trips by reading books about different places, planets and imaginary places. They traveled from Alaska in Akiak: A Tale of the Iditarod to Bloors Academy and an underground passage in Charlie Bone and the Castle of Mirrors. Today, we want to tell you about a Web App from Texthelp, eBook Reader, that reads Bookshare books in the Cloud. eBook Reader is one of a new suite of Web Apps that work within browsers on iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, and other mobile devices as well as PCs and Macs. 150,000 Student Members, 125,000 books, and a New OSEP Award

We are excited to announce that Bookshare now serves over 150,000 student members and has over 125,000 books in the collection.  Of these, 80,000 are educational titles that continue to pour into the library from publishers, as well as hundreds of student textbook requests that are fulfilled every month! These are major milestones that we have achieved a year ahead of schedule as part of our 5-year Bookshare for Education (B4E) award from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). Celebrate National Dyslexia Awareness Month and Win Read2Go!

October is National Dyslexia Awareness Month, and Bookshare invites you to help spread the word. Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability that results in people having difficulties with specific language skills, particularly reading.  You can learn more about dyslexia by visiting the International Dyslexia Association website. Individuals with severe cases of dyslexia may find it very difficult or virtually impossible to read traditional print books.
