Kickstart Summer Vacation with the Bookshare Book Club’s June Pick

Welcome again to the Bookshare Book Club! Each month Bookshare staff chooses a book for members to read before hosting a discussion on the last Friday of the month. The conversations take place on Bookshare Twitter, using the hashtag #BKSBookClub. While we have created this club with adult Bookshare members in mind, everyone is welcome to join, including non-Bookshare members.

June’s book will be Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi. Turning the classic fairytale treat on its head, Oyeyemi tells the tale of Harriet and Perdita Lee, a mother and daughter pair shrouded in mystery. A possible imaginary homeland, a childhood friend named Gretel, and a gold-painted flat are just the beginning. Perdita tries to unravel the threads of her mother’s life as the novel blurs the lines between reality and fantasy. Gingerbread is sure to keep readers hooked to the last page.

Our discussion for Gingerbread will take place on Friday, June 28, at 12:00 pm PT on the Bookshare Twitter account. Be sure to tune in for an entertaining conversation, as well as the announcement of our July book.
