Cook Up a Mystery with the Bookshare Book Club

Welcome back to the Bookshare Book Club! Each month, Bookshare staff will choose books for members to read before hosting discussions near the end of the month. The conversations will take place through Zoom webinars. While we have created this club with Bookshare members in mind, everyone is welcome to join, including non-Bookshare members.

In addition to our adult book club, we have launched the Bookshare Teen Book Club. The teen book club is geared towards ages 12-18, but everyone is welcome to join. Additionally, both the adult and teen book club picks this summer will be chosen from Bookshare’s summer reading lists.

Bookshare Book Club Pick for Adults

July’s book for adults will be My Soul Looks Back by Jessica B. Harris. Food writer Jessica Harris looks back on her days cooking with Maya Angelou, hearing James Baldwin read early drafts of his work, and falling in love with Sam Floyd. Including some of her favorite recipes throughout, Harris traces her journey from young French professor to cookbook author, making notable friendships along the way. An entrancing memoir capturing the spirit of 1970s New York, My Soul Looks Back will leave you wanting more.

The Zoom webinar discussion for My Soul Looks Back will take place on Thursday, July 30th at 5:00 pm PT. Register here.

Bookshare Book Club Pick for Teens

July’s book for teens is Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson. Stevie Bell is an amateur detective starting her first year at the exclusive Ellingham Academy. She’s determined to solve the notorious cold case involving the kidnapping of the founder’s wife and daughter nearly eighty years prior. But when her classmate dies in mysterious circumstances, Stevie finds her wish may frighteningly come true sooner than she ever wanted it to in this riveting murder mystery full of twists and turns.

The Zoom webinar discussion for Truly Devious will take place on Tuesday, July 28th at 4:00 pm PT. Register here.

In this time of social distancing, it’s more important than ever to stay connected, so be sure to join the conversation!
