Today is the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This landmark legislation affirms and protects the rights of people with disabilities in a wide range of public settings. Since the ADA came into effect, American society has benefited tremendously; nevertheless, there is still significant work to be done. Innovative program at Perkins School for the Blind provides training and coaching to jumpstart careers for blind and visually impaired young adults. A recent panel of customer service professionals, including a representative from Bookshare, shared their advice with Perkins trainees.
On October 22, the Bookshare community came together virtually to hear two students and an adult share their advice as disability advocates. They discussed important topics such as securing accommodations, getting accessible materials, and recruiting allies to achieve success in the classroom and workplace.
