Welcome to another year of the Bookshare Book Club! Each month, Bookshare staff will choose books for members to read before hosting discussions near the end of the month. The conversations will take place through Zoom webinars. While we have created this club with Bookshare members in mind, everyone is welcome to join, including non-Bookshare members.
In addition to our adult book club, we have launched the Bookshare Teen Book Club. The teen book club is geared towards ages 12-18, but everyone is welcome to join.
Bookshare Book Club Pick for Teens
January’s book for teens is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. In a world of Reds and Silvers, Mare Barrow has always been a Red, serving the superhuman Silvers and getting by as a thief. Unexpectedly in front of the Silver court, Mare finds out she has a superpower after all. Pulled into the Silvers’ world, Mare must risk everything in order to help the Red rebellion quietly underway. But what will she lose along the way?
The Zoom webinar discussion for Red Queen will take place on Tuesday, January 26th at 4:00 pm PT. Register here.
Bookshare Book Club Pick for Adults
January’s book for adults will be Leave the World Behind by Rumaan Alam. In a quiet corner of Long Island, Amanda, Clay, and their teenage children are escaping the bustle of New York City for a week. When the house’s owners Ruth and G.H. show up in the middle of the night, however, their peace is disrupted by the news that all of New York has been struck by a sudden blackout. A relaxing vacation suddenly becomes a question of who to trust and what to believe, and there may not be any right answers.
The Zoom webinar discussion for Leave the World Behind will take place on Thursday, January 28th at 5:00 pm PT. Register here.
In this time of social distancing, it’s more important than ever to stay connected, so be sure to join the conversation!
